Tenants Rights win

February 12, 2012

We recently recovered £12,200 compensation plus legal costs for a commercial tenant under section 37 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954. The claim was brought about following a landlord serving a section 25 notice to bring the tenancy to an end as the landlord was intending to demolish or reconstruct the premises and did not intend to offer a new tenancy arrangement to the client. This created a statutory entitlement for our client to receive compensation, but the landlord refused to pay the entitlement when correspondence was exchanged. The claim was settled within a few months of proceedings.
